How do the residents of Hammarkullen perceive their environment?
Visual mapping with Maptionnaire of different values prior to renovation and transformation processes
How can different qualities and problems in a residential environment be mapped, for example how residents experience different places in and around the building, and how can such information be communicated to other residents as well as to the municipality and property owners to influence future changes? During the autumn of 2017 and the spring of 2018, we conducted a pilot study in Hammarkullen, Gothenburg, to develop and test a dialogue methodology for such a shift in power.

PROJECT RESULTS
— What we learned
”Tenants in a residential area are good at describing qualities and problems in their immediate area, they can be visualized in maps, and this provides excellent information for change processes – if whoever has power over these is interested in sharing power with the tenants.”
Report 2019
The report describes the methodology used in the project and goes into detail about all the results. The methodology was later developed and has been used by the Swedish Union of Tenants in collaboration with research in many other housing areas, to ask what tenants think about their areas before change processes are carried out.
