Learning Lab Hammarkullen:
Codesigning Renovation
Learning Lab Hammarkullen was a platform for residents, housing companies, companies and academics for common learning about how renovation of residential buildings can be done sustainable taking into account all different perspectives.
We seeked knowledge about how residents can be included early in the process and how tenants can be involved in the actual decisions. The project thus included how tenant dialogue can be changed so that residents get more power over how renovations are being done.
The project was part of National Transdisciplinary Centre of Excellence for Integrated Sustainable Renovation (SIRen) funded by the Swedish research council Formas with 23 million SEK and likewise by partners. The program developed a model for sustainable integrated renovation that takes into account environmental, social and economic aspects.

PROJECT RESULTS
— What we learned
“If tenants are to truly gain more power in renovation, consultation models for renovation need to challenge practices and play a role in system change. This can lead to sustainable renovation and prevent reno-eviction.”
